About the Project
The City of Durango recently acquired Buckley Park (1.65 acres) from School District 9-R. Centrally located with convenient access to downtown, Buckley Park is a popular venue for community gatherings and special events. The park currently features an open lawn and numerous mature heritage trees that provide shade and character; however, the space is heavily used and showing signs of wear. It also lacks essential amenities such as restrooms, defined circulation, adequate facilities for special events, and updated infrastructure.
The Master Plan will establish a long-term vision for the park, addressing community needs and improving functionality while enhancing landscape biodiversity, increasing resilience and improving economic benefits. The plan will consider integration with the adjacent City Hall/PD campus, the Midtown Connectivity, Downtown Next Steps, and Camino Crossing projects to ensure cohesive connectivity.
To guide this process, the City will identify key parameters and non-negotiable elements necessary to meet operational, safety, and Comprehensive Plan requirements. Within these established parameters, the design process will explore a range of options, allowing features and design details to be shaped through community input and collaboration with the City’s professional design consultant, HDR.
We will offer both virtual and in-person engagement opportunities, including outreach at the Farmers Market and community workshops. Please share your feedback through the Buckley Park Visioning Board below and/or attend one of the public events listed under Key Dates to help inform the design of Buckley Park.
