Special Project Advisory
North College Drive will be closed during the day for approximately two weeks beginning Sept. 15, while crews work to pave the road.
The closure will take place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. every weekday, with the road reopening to traffic each evening. The road will be open on weekends. Homeowners and local services, including mail and trash, will be allowed access throughout the closure. However, vehicles may be subject to delays as trucks and workers move through the job site.
The recommended alternate route to access the College Mesa during the road closure is East College Drive (Goeglein Gulch Road).
Keeping the road open during paving operations would have extended the process by an additional three to four weeks.
Residents along North College drive will receive notification on their doors, and on their utility bills. Signage regarding the closure will be posted on North College Drive leading up to the closure.
Weekly updates on construction are available through the city’s Orange Cone Report.
About the Project
The current project area is along North College Drive between Richard Drive and just past Aquarius Place.
Aging infrastructure in this area has led to several water main leaks along N. College Dr, degrading the roadway over the years. This project is a collaboration between the Utilities and Streets divisions of the Public Works Department to replace the water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater systems at the same time as redesigning the roadway to include traffic calming measures and new curb, gutter and sidewalks, and pavement on N. College Dr. This project is years in the making to ensure all planning was in place so the roadway is only disturbed once.
Maintaining traffic flow on N. College Dr will evolve throughout the course of the project but will mostly include alternating one-way traffic, using flaggers during working hours.
Working hours will be from 7:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Work will only take place outside of these hours for emergencies or extenuating circumstances.
The water system improvements will happen first, replacing the water main running under N. College Dr, and replacing, repairing and adding water valves. Scheduled water service interruptions are planned and residents will have notice prior to interruptions via door hanger notifications and direct email contact from the Project Manager.
After the water system improvements are complete, the focus will shift to repair and replacement of the sanitary sewer and stormwater systems. Once the underground infrastructure components are complete, next will be the installation of traffic calming features, replacement of curb, gutter and sidewalks, and the repaving of N. College Dr.
Construction equipment and materials will be staged at a City-owned parcel at the end of Willow Pl, and along the public right-of-way near the bottom of N. College Dr, just above Richard Dr.
