New trail proposed for addition to the Twin Buttes Open Space and single track trail system.
About The Project
Currently the only way to navigate between the Cliffrock Loop trail and the Upper Twin Buttes trail is by means of a fun, but rather advanced downhill and a stout and technical climb.
To provide options for riders of all skill levels to enjoy the trails and open space, and to continue our efforts to expand our trail system and terrain available for Class 1 E-bikes, Parks and Recreation is proposing to construct a new single-track and natural surface trail segment connecting Cliffrock Loop to Upper Twin Buttes.
The new trail will follow a much more gentle and meandering alignment with wonderful views and a chance to get a closer look at the unique 'cliffrock' formation standing prominent above the eastern meadows of Twin Buttes
Current Status
The City of Durango, in partnership with Durango Trails, is planning to begin work on the trail once the seasonal wildlife closure in this area has been lifted. Due to unfortunate failures of trail construction equipment in 2025 and lack of available workforce, the construction of the new trail at Twin Buttes Open Space has been delayed until after the winter wildlife closure has ended and as conditions allow in the spring of 2026. Estimated completion is July 4th, 2026.
