About the Project

The City of Durango Parks and Recreation Department is making improvements to the park space located at 111 Ryler Drive, referred to as Ryler Park. The City-owned property is a 4,700 square foot lot that currently houses a small, dilapidated play structure with lackluster surroundings. The small space has the potential to be transformed into a beautiful, vibrant community space. Plans will be finalized over the next few months with construction slated for Spring/Summer of 2025. This project is funded by the 2005 Sales Tax. Your input and participation are crucial in this process, as we strive to create a park that reflects the preferences and desires of the neighbors.

Status

Parks and Recreation staff held a meeting at the park on April 25, 2024, to discuss potential improvements. The general consensus of the meeting was to keep the park a quiet destination with shade trees and places to sit. Attendees expressed interest in updating the existing play structure with improved accessibility or modifying the park to include alternative forms of recreation. It was also requested to add bench seating and possible fitness equipment. Lawn or turf was not a priority, however, most attendees wanted shade trees and plants that would attract birds and butterflies.

Over the next several months, the ideas were assembled into 2 Concept plans at which time public input was requested. A final design is currently being developed to reflect the desired amenities and will go out to bid this winter for Spring 2025 construction.
